Dolly Parton Sends Free Books to Little Ones
Oct 11th, 2008 by Alicia
Are you familiar with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library? This wonderful program started out in her home county and has spread to communities all over the U.S. and beyond. Individual communities secure funding to provide age appropriate books for kids from birth to age 5– every month, absolutely free.
The program can be sponsored by any group. In our area, it’s funded through United Way.
There is no income requirement and the program is available to all kids of the age group in each community (though some communities start with just newborns to start). If your community is not served, there’s info on her website about how to change that, too.
Jack was in the program for about 3 years and “graduated” last May when he turned 5. He was absolutely thrilled each month when his book arrived. He still treasures every one of them.
We signed Alex up when he was born and he already loves his books. Here he is reading this month’s selection on the way to Grandma and Grandpa’s on Thursday.
