Kindergarten Report
Aug 25th, 2008 by Alicia
Jack continues to push me to do kindergarten every day as much as possible. I’ve told him that we’ll officially start school next week and so we only have to do a little bit of school for now, just to appease him. He’s a demanding little guy!
A few things we’ve done the past couple of days for kindergarten anyway include…
- The letter of the day for yesterday was G. I wrote out glitter and he had to read the word before we could cover the letters with anything. It took a bit but he sounded out glitter and was quite proud.

- We went to a local pioneer village for a volunteer appreciation pot luck. While there the kids played on an old train, explored historic buildings, played piano, locked themselves in the jail and drove fire trucks.

- Jack found a Jump Start First Grade computer game and installed it. He spent a lot of time yesterday playing the games and did really well at it! One section involves getting scrambled 3 letter words that the narrator pronounces and the child has to put them in the right order. Once there are 3, he asks the child to put them in alphabetical order. Not only did Jack easily unscramble the words but he flew through alphabetizing them. I didn’t even know he knew how to alphabetize! Look how proud he looks at he well he did! :) I was proud too!

- He wrote his first song and it was about me! The girls sing it with him. It’s something about his hair blowing in the wind and being with his friend and then something about me and the baby. I’ll have to have them dictate it so I can type it up.
Mostly he has been playing and having fun, though. Daddy took him and Alex to the park today. He and Victoria rode their scooters while I pushed Alex in the stroller tonight until after dark. He’s been playing with blocks and magnetic animals, hanging out with friends in the back yard and playing on the swingset. Summer is ending and he may be impatient for school and fall but I think it’s good to play for just a little bit longer. ![]()
It looks like he is having a blast! My little one has been eager to “do kindergarten” too.
