You Know You’re a Homeschool Geek When…

Daryl had an appointment with a dermatologist out of town yesterday so the whole family made the trek together. The kids and I read magazines and wandered around the lawns outside during the appointment.
When Daryl was done, he went back in with Victoria for a minute. Apparently, he went to the receptionist and asked if it would be okay to get some more brochures, explaining, “We’re homeschoolers and she’s interested in becoming a doctor.”
The receptionist happily sent Daryl and Victoria to another room where a nurse loaded them up with a pile of brochures. Victoria was thrilled and thanked her profusely.
They came out with their goodies and I heard Daryl saying “Ooh! We’ve got skin cancer, tattoo removal, vascular birthmarks… which one do you want first?”.
Then he stopped himself, looked at me sheepishly and said “I am such a homeschool geek, aren’t I?”.
Well yeah, but there’s worse things to be!
Ha! We conned a dr. into letting us take home my husband’s x-rays (he hurt his back snowmobiling 2 yrs ago) by using the good old “we’re homeschoolers” excuse. ;o) Everyone we told said, “but they NEVER give those to people”. I guess you just need to be geeky enough to ask!
We’ve had friends bring us x-rays because we’re HSers too.
I think my ultimate HS geek moment was when I was at the Mayo clinic seeing a neurologist to try to find the cause of my ocular migraines. They did an MRI and I asked the neurologist if I could bring all of my kids in so they could see it. I told him “How often do you get a chance to see your mom’s brain???”! G!
