Lapbooking en masse
Jul 7th, 2008 by Alicia

It had been a while since we had done any lapbooks so I let the kids each pick one subject to do a lapbook on yesterday.
Anna picked diamonds.
Jack picked everything in the universe (again) and finally settled on the letter A.
Victoria picked A.C. Grimes, a confederate mail smuggler, riverboat captain and escape artist who was friends with Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain).
I googled stuff for the girls’ lapbooks yesterday and just winged it for Jack’s with lots of stickers and letting him draw things that started with A.
Last night we all sat down at the kitchen table and worked on them all at once.
It was the first time we’ve done them as a group. Usually I work with each child one-on-one and I space the lapbooks out by a couple of days.
All in all, it worked pretty well. There was some bickering about using scissors and glue, and the noise level got higher than usual. Still, it made it quicker and easier having it be a group project.
They each have a little bit to do to finish this morning. It was late when we wrapped up so I just left all hte materials out on the table. I figure they can finish up after breakfast and then they can all present to the family.
It’s nice to get back to lapbooking. We all enjoy it. We learn something, we get to exercise our craft impulses and it produces such a nice, teachable keepsake.
I’ll post pictures when they’re done. I deleted some extras on this end so I think the blog will let me this time. Fingers crossed!
