“Mom and Me” Days
Jun 19th, 2008 by Alicia
This week I started having assigned days when I spent about an hour doing something special with each child.
I’ve always made a point of doing one-on-one things daily with each of the kids, but it is often mundane tasks like fixing dinner, doing math or pulling weeds. Even those times do matter since it’s focused on just the two of us, but I wanted to designate one time per week that was truly special.
Monday was Victoria’s day. She chose to go on a bike ride and then play marbles.
Wednesday was Jack’s day. He chose to do a painting craft (I taped saran wrap on a big piece of cardboard and he painted a picture that we hung on the window when it was dry) and play with playdough.
Thursday was Anna’s day. She chose to go to the mall together (a silly excuse for a mall with about 3 stores that are still open) and I surprised by letting her pierce her ears. She’s been asking for a while and I’ve told her it was her choice. We stopped and chatted with the lady and asked a lot of questions. She said she wasn’t ready to we went on our way. Later she told me she wanted to do it today and she picked out some lovely ones and bit the bullet! We also rode one of those little coin operated cars together. I had to hold my head out the window since I was too big!
All 3 kids really enjoyed their “Mom and Me” time this week and everybody has seemed so much sweeter. That hour of special time with just Mom really means the world to them, and it’s nice for me to spend time with each child one-on-one and get to pamper them a bit.
