Anna’s name lapbook
Jun 12th, 2008 by Alicia
Anna’s latest lapbook is about her name, Rhiannon (ree-ANN-on), which she rarely uses but really likes.
(The back story for her name… When we were expecting our first child and discussed names, Daryl voted for Rhiannon because he liked the Fleetwood Mac song by the same name.
I proclaimed that it was too unusual and we went with Victoria. The second time, I knew that I wanted Anna as a nickname and Lee (my mother’s middle name) as a middle name, and people kept suggesting Rhiannon. I looked into it and found out Rhiannon had been a Welsh goddess known for protecting animals, as well as the subject of a really cool song. <G> So we named her Rhiannon Lee but I have called her Anna Lee and Anna for most of her life and that’s what she goes by. She is just now getting to a stage where she really likes having the choice of how to introduce herself though, and she’s in love with her songs (Stevie Nicks wrote some other songs about Rhiannon later, too). I googled the lyrics for Anna the other day and thought she might like to do a whole lapbook about all the history associated with her name, and she loved the idea. We also found out lots more about the original myth and it’s a pretty intense one but it does have a happy ending so I guess that counts for something…)
Anyway…. here’s a pic! (There are some inside pages but the photos got eaten!) We even found an image on the net of Rhiannon Way so we have a street sign in there.
We also found a site that claimed the nursery rhyme “Ride a cock horse” was about Rhiannon so we included that. She loves her completed lapbook!
What a fantastic idea! A wonderful way to celebrate each child and learn a bit about others with their name or where it came from. She looks positively thrilled to have done this lapbook - that first picture is really beautiful. Love the pink hair too
