No soccer after all

We decided to nix soccer after all, for a multitude of reasons. Among them…
- Victoria would have to give up the Joyful Girls club she just joined because it meets on Mondays when she’d have soccer practice.
- Anna would miss Monday practices because of gymnastics.
- We’d have to skip the Swan Release program we take part in every year.
- I’d have to commit to full Saturdays as a ref, with Daryl and the kids stuck nearby since the baby is still nursing and needs me often.
- I wouldn’t be able to watch Victoria’s games since I would have to ref on other games at the same time.
- I am NOT good at soccer rules and frequently get confused while rooting for Victoria’s team. I’d make the world’s worst soccer ref!
- I felt blackmailed into doing it, since the head coach said it was full unless one of us could be a ref. I love to do volunteer work, but this particular job is not one I’d feel comfortable doing ordinarily and there’s no way I would have agreed if my child getting into soccer hadn’t ridden on it.
- We have friends who love soccer and a field with nets across the street from us, so we can still play a lot this summer.
- The girls already missed the first week.
- There is a record number of kids signed up and we were told that the kids wouldn’t get much field time.
- It just didn’t feel right, and it felt good to change our minds!
Luckily, both girls were fine with the decision. Victoria dealy loves soccer but she is equally excited about her new club. As long as we play as a family, the girls are happy. I like playing with them so it’s all good.
Ironically, we’re getting buried in snow at the moment so there might not even be a game on Saturday. It’s hard to even think about soccer when there are snow drifts on the field!
