Sk8ter Girl

Just had to share this clip of Annalee ice skating. She has gotten really good! This is after going to homeschool ice skating somewhere between 5 and 8 times, with no instruction other than watching how the other kids skate. (Does that make it Unskating?
) Last year, Victoria went every week but Annalee hated being so cold and falling so much so she sat it out. This year she wanted to go for it and now she’s zipping around like she’s been doing it forever. Notice how she stops by crashing into the wall!
I love her giggle at the end.

That’s awesome! I love it!! I have unskaters & unswimmers too. They’re the best, I don’t care what anyone says.
D went thru one session of swimming lessons when he was 6yo & it didn’t seem to do much for him. Going swimming lots of times just for the fun of it did though & one day when he was almost 13 he decided he was ready to jump off the high dive board & just did it….Well, after his younger sister (by nearly 3 years) S did it. (Not one single lesson under her belt, I must add!) I still find that fascinating. I’ve always been terrified of diving in and never learned to swim til adulthood…and not even all that well. I really never had opportunities to play in water as a kid but was sent to swim lessons at age 6 and know that only served to turn me off and scare me for the rest of my life.
I met an awful mom at skating once (not a homeschooler, just a mom on a mission, trying to create the perfect beast, so everyone would be proud. ugh.) who had a checklist of things her 7yo daughter HAD to do on the ice during open skating. And she wouldn’t let her play around using the walkers on the ice like the other kids because (and I quote!): “I did NOT spend all that money on lessons just for you to come here and use a walker you don’t need! You KNOW how to skate!” Eeek. I wish she had spent all that money on ice cream cones or something and given that little girl the gift of enjoyment.
I’m glad you did. I love that Anna’s laughing when she hits the wall to stop.
